A little bit of my personal heritage

On my mother's side her maiden name being Paul, also having the last name of Mccann in their family, yes just like the traditional irish oatmeal brand. their family coming from County Armagh Pre British times since Armagh being in Ulster (the north). Believing to have emigrated for reasons of the famine and finding work. Emigrating to Newfoundland their family settled in a fishing village by the name of Ferryland on the eastern coast about 80 miles south of St. Johns. Then some staying there others moving south to Massachusetts. To where my grandmother grew up in Dorchester which is south boston area which at the time was a very irish catholic area. My grandmother has told me she remembers growing up and not knowing anyone that wasn't catholic till she was about 18 years old, which is far from the norm today any where much less specifically in Dorchester. Later on in life she moving to a northern suburb of Boston still retaining its irish roots. Then my mother growing up in an irish catholic house hold attending catholic school in historical Concord, MA. Thus residing to Southern NH to where I then grew up 35 minutes from Boston.
As for my fathers side it is much more unknown since he grew up in Kansas City, MO there are a lot more gaps in their family history. His and my last name being Dolan, also having the name of O'Connell being in the family. It is thought that his side come from either the county Roscommon, West Meath, or Offaly. Since growing up in New England it was not as accessible to seeing the Family from MO. Thus only seeing my grandfather every other year in the years of late and not being able to really speak with him about our heritage. Though he passed way with past summer of 2007 so now I'll have to go by the knowledge of my aunt and uncles of my fathers family.
